PMBOK Guide 2018, is it worth it?

PMI (yes the institute that hands out those expensive certificates) latest Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) has come out in its sixth edition. Maybe you're already pondering on buying it, maybe you have already. After all, of you're like me you want to dive in directly into project management and learn everything there is to know it should be an investment, right?

Depends.

The PMBOK Guide is certainly not a light read. Its way to extensive to be read by somebody who is just getting into project management and perhaps to clunky to use as a go-to manual for experienced to intermediate project managers. After all, dealing with certain situations in a project enviroment will rarely allow for you to go look up the manual in order to deal with certain situations. But as it is the PMBOK allows you to have sort of like a bible that should take everything related to project management into account. Question is if your turly recieve the best all around knowledge of project management from one book rather than reading hundreds on various overlapping subjects related to project management.
